I retired in 2015 as Carl H. Pforzheimer University Professor and University Librarian. Since then I have published three books on publishing, the book trade, and the coming of the French Revolution. Now I am completing a fourth, tentatively titled "The Writer's Lot in Eighteenth-Century France."
