Jude Willoughby
Jude is a PhD student studying early modern English literature, particularly the metaphysical poets and the ways in which their politics and religious views impact the form and content of their writing. He is currently working on Andrew Marvell and his aesthetic engagement with emergent economic markets in both Britain and the Continent during the mid-late seventeenth century. Jude has recently published an article in Scintilla, the Vaughan studies journal, which offers a precise dating of Henry Vaughan's poem 'The Importunate Fortune' based on contemporary political events. He also works on late sixteenth-century and early seventeenth-century poetry and drama.
Jude completed his BA in English at Lincoln College, Oxford in 2022 before completing his MSt in early modern English literature at New College, Oxford in 2023. Before arriving at Harvard in 2025, Jude spent two years working as an English teacher in a London secondary school.
