Janet Gyatso works on intellectual history and literature in early modern Tibet. Her books include Being Buddhist in a Human World: An Intellectual History of Medicine in Early Modern Tibet (2015) and Apparitions of the Self: The Secret Autobiographies of a Tibetan Visionary (1998). Her teaching and current work centers on alternative epistemologies and animal ethics, and topics in Buddhist Studies.
