Deren Ertas

PhD Candidate

Deren Ertas is a PhD Candidate in the joint History and Middle Eastern Studies program at Harvard University. She is currently completing her dissertation entitled “Geos and Empire: Mining, Labor, and Environment in the Ottoman Empire, 1720s-1820s.” Her work has been supported by the Fulbright-Hays, CAORC, American Research Institute in Turkey, the Weatherhead Center, and others. Deren is a member of the Ottoman Political Economy Network and one of the co-conveners of the MINESCAPES working group hosted by the Consortium for the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine.
